SAM's Hammering Man Magnet is based on the sculpture by artist Jonathan Borofsky. 

Purchased by the City of Seattle using their 1% for the arts funds, it is now installed at the south entrance to the Seattle Art Museum on First Avenue and University Street.  Borofsky (born 1942) is an American painter, sculptor and print maker who is well known for his installation art.  Versions of the Hammering Man have been installed in various cities around the world.
